The BPF EPS Group made a strong appearance at this year’s Construction Week held at the Birmingham NEC from 1–3 October 2024. The event is the UK’s largest built environment exhibition for the construction industry. It was a prime opportunity for the EPS Group to highlight the crucial role of expanded polystyrene (EPS) in sustainable construction.

The EPS Group exhibited at Stand B532 which attracted many visitors throughout the three days. It was an opportunity to showcase how EPS contributes to energy efficiency in the built environment. EPS is the perfect material for insulation due to its lightweight but durable nature, it is energy efficient but also durable which makes it the ideal material to be used in buildings.

“We were able to engage with industry leaders and promote EPS as a key solution for the challenges the construction industry faces in achieving sustainability goals.” Angela Fredericks, Special Advisor, EPS & Innovation at the BPF Angela Fredericks Special Advisor, EPS & Innovation at the BPF

EPS is used in various applications within the construction industry and examples include insulation within basements, roofs, floors, walls and more. EPS is also used in civil engineering and each application often has specific design requirements. Examples of applications in civil engineering include light weight fill for road and rail embankments but there are many more.

There were many presentations throughout the exhibition and a key theme was the UKs transition to net zero and sustainable materials alongside innovation within the built environment. Being at the show enable the EPS Group to raise the profile of EPS and demonstrate that it is 100% recyclable and that the material properties align with the UKs transition to carbon neutrality.

“We were thrilled to be a part of Construction Week 2024, where we were able to engage with industry leaders and promote EPS as a key solution for the challenges the construction industry faces in achieving sustainability goals,” said Angela Fredericks, Special Advisor, EPS & Innovation at the BPF. “Our focus is on educating the market about the environmental advantages of using EPS, particularly its contribution to reducing carbon footprints and improving the energy efficiency of buildings.”

Construction Week 2024 provided a platform to connect with key stakeholders across the construction sector, from architects and developers to policymakers.
